Pageant judges spend time with each contestant to learn about her successes, talents, goals and ambitions. Attention is focused on her poise, charm, self-confidence and her ability to communicate, as well as the substance of her answers.
Candidates perform a talent of up to 90 seconds of their own choosing. Scoring is based on contestant's skill and personality, interpretive ability, technical skill level, stage presence and the totality of all elements, including costume, props, voice, use of body and choreography.
Each contestant wears a gown she has chosen for herself. Attention is focused on each contestant’s overall appearance, self-confidence, sense of style and the beauty she brings to the gown of her choice.

All contestants are encouraged to attend all four sessions but only required to attend 3 in order to meet requirements of the pageant.
R.E.A.-D. Academy is a 4-week program that is offered to the contestants participating in the Miss R.E.A.-D. Beauty Pageant. It is a preparation class for the “Big Day”. Every Saturday leading up to the pageant starting March 4th, the participants will work with the Director and VolunQueens to enhance and/or perfect their public speaking lessons, talent, and character development. The contestants will get the opportunity to network and build personal relationships with some of the most influential women in the Hampton Roads Area with group bonding exercises and activities. R.E.A.-D. Academy will help promote the importance of our of pageant motto “A QUEEN STAYS READY, SO SHE NEVER HAS TO GET READY!” Each week will be a progressive series of high-quality activities and learning experiences that will help the contestants to achieve not only “the crown” but develop & strengthen their social, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being. Our contestants will be given the opportunity to participate in mentoring from our VolunQueens as well as other opportunities/activities that may include community service, virtual chat sessions, and life-long connections as they gain the ability to lead themselves and others on a course of action. Our main goal at R.E.A.-D. Academy is to grow each contestants’ ability to analyze their own strengths and weaknesses, set personal and vocational goals, and have the self-confidence and self-esteem to pursue and achieve their goals.
