About Miss R.E.A.-D

Our Mission

The Miss R.E.A.-D. Scholarship Pageant is a platform for young ladies from across the United States to exhibit their talents and skills honed through the REA-D Academy. REA-D represents Responsible, Education, Attitude, and Determination, essential qualities for women's leadership from youth to adulthood.

Conceived by Diamond Gorman, a former pageant contestant now dedicated to empowering women in the construction industry, the pageant fosters confidence and stage presence. Gorman, a mother of three daughters, values healthy competition as a means to nurture confidence and readiness.

To address the need for confidence-building beyond conventional activities, Gorman initiated REA-D Academy. This mentorship program enlists college students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and accomplished women from the community to prepare participants for the pageant.

The annual Miss R.E.A.-D event, held once a year at various locations, features various competitive phases for two age divisions: Little Miss R.E.A.-D. and Miss R.E.A.-D.. Winners are awarded a $500 scholarship and a year-long reign as queen or princess.

With the motto "A queen stays ready, so she doesn't have to get ready!", Gorman stresses the significance of preparation and empowerment. Through REA-D Academy, participants undergo extensive training to enhance performance skills, public speaking, and overall confidence.

The pageant experience transcends the stage, providing mentorship from influential women in various areas. Gorman believes the journey of self-discovery and growth is paramount, valuing bonds forged among participants.

Orientation for REA-D Academy is 6 weeks prior to the pageant day, culminating in a state-of-the-art beauty pageant attended by families, friends, politicians, community leaders, and most importantly, the supportive sisterhood they've cultivated.
